Adventure Farm Gertrudenhof

If you are looking for a great place to get away from the city and spend a few hours with the kids powering themselves out, feeding animals, eating food, playgrounds, and browsing through flowers and fresh vegetables, and you happen to be near Cologne, then the Adventure Farm Gertrudenhof might just be a good place for you to visit.

The adventure farm is close to cologne, roughly 30 minutes south by car from the center of the city in the area of Hürth.

This large plot of land is a combination of several “things to do” for families, including a petting zoo. The animals are kept in large spaces and are allowed to be fed with special feed that can be purchased at the entrance or in the stores. You’ll find the entrance of the petting zoo and children’s play area at the end of Lortzingstraße, where you have plenty of parking availability – for free.

The entrance to the adventure farm costs €5 during the week and €6.90 on the weekends, however it is well worth it, especially for families with kids. As with most activities that cost significantly more, families with school children or younger toddlers will appreciate the farm, as it offers a bit of everything for younger kids including playgrounds – one being a water playground, so bring an extra pair of clothes, and animals to pet and feed without really breaking the bank.

If you would like to feed the animals and chickens, then you are able to purchase feed for the price of €1 per box and your children can go around the entire fenced pathways and areas handing out food to the well-kept animals.

You’ll find all your typical farm animals.

Furthermore, you’ll also find the center area with 4 smaller playgrounds, each featuring something different for children to play on and plenty of places to sit, watch, and interact, including benches to lounge chairs. Next to the playground is a carousel (additional payment required) and a small imbiss stand that offers french fries and sausages and a few other local products.

Towards one end of the inner area, you’ll also find a large selection of flowers on sale which also leads to the larger café area that boasts relaxing music and a great way to enjoy a sunny day.

After all that, a visit to the large farm shop is another “can-do” with a tremendous selection of locally grown fruits and vegetables among other items.

A wide variety of flowers and gifts can be purchased on one end of the farm.

Overall, a trip worthwhile, not far from Cologne’s city center, where families can spend a few hours enjoying animals, playing on the playgrounds, browsing the many flowers, relaxing and enjoying a cup of coffee, or grabbing a bite to eat.
