Overview

The palace located in Hanau is known as the Philippsruhe Palace on the Main and it is the oldest baroque palace built in the French style, east of the Rhine. Hence it is one of the most important cultural and architectural monuments in Hesse.

The collection focus of the Historical Museum is on Hanau art and handicrafts from the 17th to the 20th century and also deals with the city's history with the Brothers Grimm, who were born in Hanau.

Therefore, you can not only visit the wonderful gardens and tour through the palace itself, but visiting here is an exciting thing to do for children as well as they will be able to visit the paper theater museum (currently under construction until 2023), but also the Grimm's Fairy Tales museum which is fully interactive for children. This is split into various sections, the right wing of the palace enters a fairy tale world with princesses, courage princes, evil witches and dangerous giants.

Children as young as four, adults, kindergarten groups, and school classes can walk through the many fairy tales and hear interesting stories about the Hanau brothers Jacob, Wilhelm, and Ludwig Emil Grimm's upbringing and lives. Everyone can immortalize their own fairy story on the fairy tale hedge at the end of the wonderful voyage through the seven fairy tale kingdoms of the Grimms Fairy Tale Kingdom.

There is also a small cafe (Marie) on site serving small snacks, such as cakes, and coffee.

Parking is very limited on site (ca. 20 places), and is free for up to 3 hours, which is manageable for visiting the museum. Alternatively, parking on streets around the vicinity or arriving by public transport is recommended.

The prices are fantastic. It is €5 Euros per adult which includes both the Grimms Fairy Tales as well as the Paper Theater. Children and Teenagers up to 18 years of age are free. More information can be found on the website.
