The Huckepack farm in Erlangen is an amazing farm that was developed and nurtured by Jürgen Niedermann who recognized the importance of regional origin of food for consumers. Over the years the family has built out the farm and introduced a self-harvesting field where you can pick fruits and vegetables fresh from the bushes or trees surrounded by nature and with the appetizing smell of strawberries, tomatoes, apples and herbs in your nose.
Children can use a small wheelbarrow as they harvest together with their parents, learning about the fruits and vegetables and when the varieties ripen and what the plants and bushes they grow on look like. After having picked their things in the self-harvesting garden, they can later eat them with the whole family on the natural playground!
The farm provides for a variety of activities for toddlers and children and is a fun activity for the whole family. There are plenty of parking spaces available as well as bathrooms.
The entrance to the play area is 2 euros. As mentioned previously the grilling area is available upon reservation, close to the play area, and one can bring your own meat, charcoal, etc.
The entrance to the self-harvesting garden is free, and you pay for what you pick at the end. The website of the farm has a lot of information available along with information regarding what fruits and vegetables are currently available for picking.
Overall, a great experience for children and families.
