Església Nova
Overview
Tucked away right of the main plaza in Son Servera, along Carrer de ses Creus is the church of Nova Son Servera. An amazingly beautiful church that was constructed in 1905, and built by Catalan architect Joan Rubio i Bellver and his partner Antoni Gaudí. The latter was responsible for finding the finances necessary to construct the church, however in 1929 the construction needed to be halted due to economic problems. Nonetheless, since then conservation works have been carried out in both 2007 and 2008, yet it was decided to leave the church unfinished.
The name in Spanish means "New Church", however there is no roof and a majority of the side walls were never constructed. Upon walking up to the entrance and seeing the area, especially on a clear day, it gives an impressing feeling, leaving one with wonder as to its construction. Today the area is used for religious celebrations as well as cultural events. A great place to visit with children, while walking through Son Servera, and to soak in the peacefulness the site gives.
