Hiking in Punta de N’Amer

Punta de N’Amer is a beautiful spot on Mallorca’s eastern coast, in Spain’s Balearic Islands. The area is renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty, surrounded by sandy beaches, rocky cliffs, and lush forests that make it a hiker’s dream. Punta de N’Amer is located next to Sa Coma and Cala Millor encompassing approximately 200 hectares of outstanding natural, cultural, and historic land of great importance. It is easily accessible by car or public transit as well as just a short drive from the town of Manacor. There are also several good hotels, restaurants, and other services in the vicinity, making it a great location to hike, especially with kids. This private land is a nature reserve that was designated as a Natural Area of Special Interest (ANEI) in 1985. The vegetation and fauna of Sa Punta de n’Amer are very remarkable; dunes, scrub, pine forest, and rock ecosystems all coexist here. It also supports several of the Balearic Islands’ unique species.

Punta de N’Amer provides something for everyone, whether you’re a seasoned hiker or just seeking for a leisurely stroll in the great outdoors with your children, there are several routes, paths and places to go to including the outlook tower (at the center) located next to the bar-restaurant which is open all year round, and offers basic grilled food, drinks, and ice cream.

There are a number of entrances into this beautiful natural reserve, whether accessing it directly next to the beach of Sa Coma, or on the other side of the park, right at the end of Cala Millor, which is the official hiking path that leads directly up to the tower and restaurant. You’ll also find numerous entrances all along Carrer dels Baladres.

The beauty of hiking around here, especially with children is that you can hike as short or as long as you want. With multiple entrances/exits and routes leading to just about anywhere, a hike through the woods, the rocky terrain, or the dirt paths is great for just about any age. The trails are relatively easy, with only a few “steep” sections, and are suitable for hikers of all skill levels. Depending on the path you are on, you’ll pass through a variety of landscapes, as mentioned previously, including sandy beaches, rocky cliffs, and forests. The trails are well-marked and well-maintained, making it easy to follow. Technically, if you just wanted to hike up towards the tower and bar-restaurant, you can do so with a larger wheeled stroller, best from Sa Coma. Initially you’ll find some sandy terrain, next to the Rancho Sa Coma Miguel, however after about 150 meters, you can take a stroller up the wide, gravel path. Alternatively, park in Cala Millor, anywhere around the Iberostar Cala Millor along Carrer Castel or the following street after the roundabout, Carrer Golf and take the official path that leads directly along the coast line towards the tower and bar-restaurant. Suitable for a stroller about 100 meters in. The hike, on average is roughly 25-35 minutes depending on your speed (logically it can be slower or faster depending on a variety of circumstances), however this too is a easy hike for children.

As just mentioned, aside from the Rancho Sa Coma Miguel, located right next to the beach of Sa Coma on Avinguda de ses Palmeres, where you can rent ponies, horses and donkey and walk around the park freely, there is the Rancho Bonanza Cala Millor located next to the playground on Carrer dels Baladres and the Minigolf Bar Cristóbal. Here you can book tours, both with ponies and horses, and take a guided tour through the park on horseback. A wonderful experience for all ages.

No matter which trail you choose, be sure to bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and a hat, as the sun can be quite strong in Mallorca during the summer months. It’s also a good idea to wear sturdy shoes, at least sports shoes. You can technically walk the main paths in flip-flops, but that is not the idea of this article.

Overall, Punta de N’Amer is a great destination for hikers of all skill levels, offering a variety of trails that cater to different interests and abilities. Whether you’re looking for a short, easy hike or a longer, more challenging adventure, you’ll find it in Punta de N’Amer.
