Der Kiosk – Deutsche Oper am Rhein
April 5 @ 11:00 - 13:00€14
“Olga has been a kiosk woman for many years. The kiosk is her life.” This is how the wonderfully colorful and humorously illustrated book by the Latvian illustrator and copywriter Anete Melece begins, celebrating the unimagined possibilities. And by the way: Olga has literally grown into her kiosk. She gets stuck while people pass her, linger to shop for little things or just to chat about themselves. Olga knows them all and has an open ear for everyone. But everyone keeps going, she’s stuck – and yet she dreams of the sea. Then the kiosk tips over with Olga and everything starts to move…
The young Mexican composer Diana Syrse, who has already won several prizes and grants, sets the protagonist’s light-footed, funny story about being stuck, hiding, dreaming and staying with her colorful-sounding work with influences from jazz, world music, classical music, avant-garde and electronics has won into tones. The composition of contemporary music theater and the questioning of what opera can tell us today, especially for young audiences, form the focus of her musical work. In collaboration with the librettist Andrea Heuser, who has also been writing the libretti for the composer Moritz Eggert for many years, the composer embarks on an imaginative search for explosive material and the connection between speech, song and and the sound of instruments for a whole new language, whose “speaking instruments” invite you to accompany Olga on her journey to the sea in a dialogically lively interplay.
In order to protect our young audience, we place both daycare groups and school classes at an appropriate distance from each other.
